The announcement follows calls from the MU to reverse the proposed cuts, as well as campaigning from across the industry and over 15,000 signatures to a petition launched by Campaign for the Arts.

MU Scotland & Northern Ireland Regional Organiser Caroline Sewell commented on the announcement:

“The MU welcomes this decision by the Scottish Government who have listened to our calls to reverse the proposed cuts to Creative Scotland which would have seen the loss of thousands of jobs across the creative industries.

“This is hugely positive, however, as it stands the sector still faces significant real terms cuts given current levels of inflation which are being felt acutely after years of standstill funding and under-investment. We will continue to push for meaningful investment and a comprehensive strategy that protects and bolsters our sector for years to come.”
