Recording Agreements, Rates of Pay and Consent Forms

We negotiate agreements with a large number of broadcasters, film producers and record companies. Through these negotiations, we set rates of pay and terms and conditions for session musicians.

The MU has collective bargaining agreements with the BBC, ITV, the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA), and independent film and TV producers who form the Producers’ Alliance for Cinema and Television (PACT). We also have an agreement with the British Recorded Music Industry (BPI) on behalf of record companies.

Using consent forms when recording

Make sure you always fill in the relevant consent form when recording sounds, and always check with our recording department about fees and terms for any media engagements.

Remote recording session work

Whilst MU session rates and terms are still recommended when engaged to work remotely from your home studio, there is a number of additional things to consider. Read our rate guidance for remote recording session work.
