Practice Diaries and Workbooks

Musicians who teach can access the MU Practice Diary and The Complete Practice Workbook through Faber Music’s online shop.

Last updated: 28 July 2023

The MU has two complimentary publications available to order at a discounted rate for MU members through Faber Music’s online shop – the MU Practice Diary and The Complete Practice Workbook.

The MU Practice Diary

The practice diary is for all instrumental and singing students, and is based on Paul Harris’s “Simultaneous Learning” strategy, which develops musical insight by making connections between all aspects of musicianship.

It contains diary pages for a teaching year, which feature:

  • Focus for the week
  • What we did in the lesson
  • Practice connections boxes.

In addition there are inspiring “Practice Starter” pages and holiday projects – plenty of fun and inspiring ideas to get students practising.

The Complete Practice Workbook

The workbook complements the MU Practice Diary and offers teachers and learners a resource that supports every aspect of instrumental and vocal practice. For every lesson, it includes a:

  • Diary to record the lesson highlights, review practice outcomes and note down any resources or issues to address in the next lesson
  • “Simultaneous Learning Practice Map” to help structure and optimise practice
  • Dedicated space to jot down ideas, notes and music, to encourage the Simultaneous Learning approach to practice.

Ordering your copy with the MU members' discount

You will need to order your diaries and workbooks from Faber Music online. Both are sold directly by Faber and were developed to be offered to MU members at a discount. The MU no longer sells these items directly and does not profit from sales.

MU members receive 20% discount on selected items in the Faber Music shop, including the practice diaries and workbooks.
