Equality, Diversity & Inclusion at the MU
The MU’s mission is to create an equitable music industry where all musicians can thrive. We’re committed to doing the same with our workplaces.
As our membership becomes more diverse, we’re working to make sure our teams reflect our members.
At the MU we welcome people with diverse perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds. You’ll be encouraged to be your authentic self and you’ll have the freedom to develop professionally and personally in a supportive and empowering workplace.
We understand that we learn best when we learn from each other. You can expect that your opinions and ideas will be valued and treated with respect.
Actions speak louder than words so to further our culture of inclusion, we invest in several ED&I initiatives, including:
- A recently established Global Majority Employees Network
- A commitment to the UK Music 10-point plan and the 5P’s to embed ED&I in every area of the MU
- Regular ED&I training to promote inclusion and develop understanding
- Mental Health First Aiders and access to an Employee Assistance programme
- Menopause Champions
- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
There is more work to be done, but we are committed to cultivating a culture of diversity and inclusion because it makes us a stronger, more successful Trade Union.
Disability Confident Scheme advice for applicants
The MU ia a Disability Confident Employer. The MU are committed to offering an interview to disabled people who meet the minimum criteria for the job.
When you complete your job application form you will find a box at the bottom that says 'Disability Confident Application'. Please tick this box if you are disabled and would like your application to be considered as a part of our commitments under the disability confident scheme.
If you have a requirement to apply for the role in another format, by video for example, please ensure that you advise us in your email accompanying your application that you wish to be considered under the scheme.
There may be occasions where it is not practicable to interview all disabled people that meet the minimum criteria for the job.
In these circumstances we will limit the overall numbers of interviews offered and select the disabled candidates who best meet the minimum criteria for the job, rather than all of those that meet the minimum criteria.
