The Executive Committee (EC) is the most important of the Committees. The EC is the national governing body of the Musicians' Union, making major decisions that affect the working lives of musicians. It deals with many important issues such as industrial negotiations, employment policy and financial management.

Standing for Executive Committee

EEC nominations happen every year in August and September. Members will be notified when nominations for 2024-25 term are open. Details and how to apply can be found on the elections page.  

Dealing with regional issues and policy

Regional Committees (RC) are a crucial part of the day-to-day management of the union at a grassroots level. The MU's six RCs are made up of activist members who help to deal with issues and policy in each region and are an important element of communication between members and the union.

Representing views of the music profession

Music Industry Advisory Boards oversee policy in the relevant industrial music sectors, representing the views of different parts of the music profession, such as music teaching, recording, composing, orchestras, theatre and live performance.

Each Sector has a democratically elected Advisory Board that meets to discuss issues and, where appropriate, make recommendations to the EC.

The nomination process for members wishing to stand for election to MU Advisory Board takes place every two years. Find out more about Advisory Board elections.

Through the work of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board we work towards achieving equality for all musicians. We continue to celebrate the diversity of the music industry and raise awareness of equality issues.

The MU attends the Trade Union Congress's (TUC) four annual Equality Conferences, where we are able to submit motions on a range of issues.

Our ED&I themed Members' Conference 2022 brought together members, ED&I Advisory Board members and our partners to discuss the issues musicians are facing.
