Executive Committee The Executive Committee (EC) is the national governing body of the Musicians' Union, making major decisions that affect the working lives of musicians. Last updated: 11 August 2026 The role of the MU's Executive Committee The Executive Committee (EC) is the national governing body of the Musicians' Union, making major decisions that affect the working lives of musicians. It deals with many important issues such as industrial negotiations, employment policy and financial management. The EC is a group of democratically elected MU members who meet every month to guide the work of the union. They are the decision-making body of the union. All decisions are the result of debate and vote and all EC members are expected to uphold such decisions. EC members are not accountable individually for the work of the union and have no individual decision-making powers. EC members are elected on a Regional basis, whilst they do not sit as delegates for their Regions. Given the importance of the issues for which they are responsible, EC members are required to adhere to the concept of collective responsibility and confidentiality in the best interests of the union and its members. In recognition of the demands on their time, they receive reimbursement of expenses incurred as well as a sitting fee or compensation for any loss of earnings. Eligibility for being a member of the EC There are Regional EC seats (seats based on the MU region that a member is from, with the number of seats based on the membership of that region), and there may be additional Reserved EC seats for underrepresented communities.
