Have Your Say on Streaming: DCMS Launches Survey for Songwriters

If you have attended a songwriting session for a major label since September 2025, the DCMS wants to hear from you. Your feedback will help evaluate measures introduced following the UK streaming inquiry and strengthen the case for fair pay for music creators.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has launched a survey examining the effectiveness of label-led initiatives that support songwriters and artists. We encourage eligible members to take part, as the findings will help strengthen the evidence base for our Fix Streaming Campaign.

About the survey

The UK government convened a Creator Remuneration Working Group (CRWG) to address concerns over low earnings among certain cohorts of music creators, culminating in the publication of label-led Principles.

Principle 4 is aimed at providing targeted assistance to songwriters, in the form of financial payments (including per diems and expenses) and assistance.

The UK subsidiaries of the three global music companies, Sony Music UK, Warner Music UK and Universal Music UK, have put in place policies and programmes implementing these Principles.

The survey seeks to understand whether Principle 4 of these measures is effective in improving outcomes from streaming for songwriters.

Eligibility

The DCMS is seeking answers from songwriters who have attended a songwriting session for a major label since September 2025.

The survey can be completed by songwriters, their manager or other representative.

Complete the survey here.

Your record label will not have access to your survey responses. All results are confidential and will only be shared with the government and its appointed researchers for the purposes of assessing the effectiveness of the music streaming Principles.
