Attending Protests and Marches Not Organised by the MU

Most members have positive experiences when attending marches. However, it is important to consider your personal safety. You may find the following advice helpful.

Last updated: 19 March 2026

The MU sometimes invites members to attend protests and marches organised by third parties.

Whilst we would not publicise anything that we might consider could be dangerous or inconsistent with our values or UK law, members must make an individual choice about whether or not to attend, and should consider their own personal circumstances.

Where it is a third-party event, the MU isn’t responsible for the event itself or for the behaviour of other attendees/individuals, and we can’t usually provide members with legal support should something go wrong. However, you may find the following resources and organisations useful.

Liberty

Liberty is a civil rights organisation founded in 1934 to challenge injustice and make sure everyone in the UK is treated fairly. One area of work is the right to protest and hold governments to account.
