The annual Northern Music Awards, which took place at Manchester’s Albert Hall venue on Tuesday 23 April, celebrated talent from across the region with other winners including rising Leeds based band English Teacher, whose founding members come from across Lancashire.

Mancunian rapper Aitch was named as the music moment of the year for his 2023 Glastonbury performance, The Reytons from Rotherham won the disruptor in music award and The K’s, from Earlestown, Merseyside won the breakthrough act of the year.

DJ Paulette was part of an iconic lineup of DJs at The Hacienda nightclub from 1991 - 1995, where she was one of just two women to have a residency there. Paulette recently published a book about her experiences, ‘Welcome to the Club: The Life and Lessons of a Black Woman DJ’ which you can find out more about and purchase via Manchester University Press.

Funds raised from the award ceremony will support the vision to open a new Nordoff and Robbins music therapy centre in Salford, Greater Manchester.
