About the event

Understanding how to engage creative freelancers in a fair and supportive way is essential to building a cultural sector where freelance talent can thrive. Freelancers bring vital skills, fresh perspectives, and creative energy — yet many continue to face precarious conditions, inconsistent support, and working practices that affect their wellbeing and sustainability.

This online session will explore CULT Cymru's new bilingual best practice guide, Engaging Creative Freelancers, through thoughtful presentations followed by an open, interactive Q&A.

It will provide practical, real-world approaches that help organisations work more fairly with freelancers, discuss the small but meaningful changes that can make a transformative difference, and share guidance shaped by union expertise and freelancer experiences — so that the cultural sector can build stronger, more respectful, and more sustainable working relationships for all.

Speakers will include:

  • Ruth Ballantyne – Musicians' Union, Chair
  • Manon Eames – Writers Guild/Equity
  • Peter Bayliss – Union Learning Representative, Musicians' Union.
