About Paul K Joyce

Paul grew up in Nottingham and following a science degree opted for a professional music career.
After many years in pop and rock bands he began writing music for television and film. In addition to scores for The Worst Witch, Noddy, Fimbles and Clay, Paul received an Ivor Novello award in 2001 for his theme to the animated series, Bob the Builder.
In 2003 Paul commissioned the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Juliet Stevenson to record The Snow Queen. Following its premiere at the Barbican Hall this work was adapted into a BBC TV special.
He co-produced and arranged YES guitarist, Steve Howe’s 2012 solo album, Time. Paul has also continued working in animation, scoring four series of the pre-school show, Toby’s Travelling Circus.
Released in 2019, Celestial set the poems of 7-year-old Johnnie Douglas-Pennant to music. Michael Sheen narrated, with natural sounds provided by Chris Watson.
Paul was commissioned by the British Medical Association in 2021 to compose a choral work to honour all those health care workers who lost their lives during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was released as a digital single in December of that year.
In 2022, Paul began work on orchestrating the 'Mirror To The Sky' album for progressive rock band, YES. His soundtrack to the short film, Land Mine was released in early 2023.
