About Oliver Canham
I’m a freelance guitarist, composer and educator working across jazz, contemporary music and commercial performance based in Crystal Palace, South London.
As a First Class graduate of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, I perform regularly around the UK and recently completed a multi city, month long tour of China with the Doug Sides Legacy Band. My work spans jazz, contemporary music and commercial settings. I have won several prizes including the ‘Phil Miller Guitar Prize’, ‘Eddie Harvey Arranger Prize’ and ‘Mike Gibbs Composition and Arranging Prize’.
Alongside performing and composing, I have several years’ teaching privately as well as through Services for Education, Hot House Music and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire’s Learning & Participation Ensemble. I teach all ages and levels, focusing on technique, musicianship, improvisation and creative development.
I have also worked in jazz promotion and arts administration, supporting TDE Promotions/Fizzle with website and mailing list management, and programming/organising live events for Jazz at the Craven Arms.
