About Nathan Williamson
Nathan Williamson studied at Guildhall, Oxford and Yale, where he also held a prestigious fellowship.
Recent works include The Quest (London Youth Opera, Shaw Theatre, 2024 - nominated for an Ivor Award), Quartet Black (Aldeburgh Festival 2023 commission, Heath Quartet) and two virtuosic song-cycles for voice and piano - The Little that was Once a Man (James Gilchrist, 2019) and Grey and Green are all my Light (Jonathan Eyers, 2023) - both widely performed with the composer. Crystal for piano quartet was commissioned for the Rossetti Ensemble in 2021, and a Cello Sonata commissioned by Charles Watt was premiered with the composer at the Alwyn Music Festival 2019. Commissions from NOW Ensemble, violinist Piotr Szewczyk, the Tuscaloosa Symphony and Daejeon Philharmonic have all been widely programmed globally.
Nathan has been commissioned several works specially for amateur and young performers, including Machine Dream, (Mahogany Opera Group ‘Snappy Operas’ project, 2017), and instrumental works for Pro Corda, Waveney and Blyth Arts, and Chamber Music 2000. As founder of the Southwold Music Trust he co-ordinates a range of music-making and outreach projects in his hometown of Southwold, on the Suffolk coast.
Nathan’s music has been recorded for SOMM, New Amsterdam, and Navona Records. He has performed as a pianist in many of the world’s great concert halls and made several landmark recordings for SOMM and Lyrita. He is a member of the renowned new music ensemble Piano Circus, with whom he works alongside numerous composers both at home and abroad, also serving as Associate Artists at Brunel University, London.
Nathan is the pianist of choice for several leading film and media composers and session orchestras, featuring as soloist and collaborator in a number of award winning film and media scores.
