About MICHAEL BAKER
Michael Baker is a prolific Producer, Songwriter, and Musician whose work spans multiple projects, collaborations, and genres. Known for his emotive songwriting and intricate production, Michael has made a name for himself both as an artist and a creative force behind the scenes.
Under his own name, Michael has released five albums of introspective indie-folk, drawing comparisons to Villagers, Sufjan Stevens, and Bon Iver. His latest album, Freak, produced by Wolfgang Gottlieb (Daniel Johnston) at Lotte Lindenberg, follows his widely supported Keep Hydrated, recorded at the legendary Wool Hall Studios. With multiple Spotify and Apple Music editorial placements, as well as airplay from BBC Introducing and BBC 6 Music, Michael has performed at major festivals, including Glastonbury and The Great Escape.
Beyond his solo work, Michael is one half of the electronic pop duo Sock Drawer, whose quirky and offbeat sound has been championed by BBC Radio 1, Amazing Radio, and Apple Music. The duo’s debut album, co-produced with James Dring (Gorillaz, Blur, Jamie T), is set for release this year.
Michael also co-leads Bloody Tourist alongside Chris Matthewson (Franklin Mansion), crafting jangly indie-electronic music with influences ranging from The Velvet Underground to Tame Impala. Their debut single “Ceremony” drops October 24th, featuring Bess Atwell.
His work with The Big Drink Band has seen releases through Ninja Tune and Sony Extreme Music, blending folk, electronic, and urban textures in a raw, collaborative setting.
Now, shifting from his Michael Baker project, he is set to unveil his latest creative venture, Roman Joon. Both Roman Joon and Bloody Tourist will be released on Talk Show Host Records, a label Michael founded in Brighton to release future projects as a producer, artist, and music enthusiast. The debut album, I Think I’m Alright, Mighty Fine, is a self-produced, dreamlike fusion of psychedelic indie, glitchy tape loops, and ambient electronica, mixed by James Dring.
Alongside his own projects, Michael is an active collaborator, regularly writing with artists such as LLSN, Scarlet Fae, and Baby Eleanor, as well as partnering with KD Kadar to develop emerging talent. His work has also been synced to major media through collaborations like the Quasar World Cup brief.
Beyond writing and production, Michael co-runs Back in the Woods Promotions with Nick Williams (Night House). The Brighton-based collective curates live events, including a dedicated stage at The Great Escape Festival and the popular Naked Night series, celebrating artists in their rawest form.
