About Katie Ratcliffe

Katie is a Northampton-based flautist with a strong focus on classical repertoire and musical theatre and is particularly interested in collaborative opportunities with accompanists and woodwind players.

Katie is also an experienced woodwind teacher, specialising in flute and clarinet tuition. She holds a Bachelor of Music (Hons) degree from the University of Birmingham, where she studied flute with Judith Hall at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. She went on to complete a Master's degree in Flute Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where she studied with Matthew Featherstone and Sarah Bennington.

To ensure she offers the best possible learning experience, Katie stays engaged with the latest developments in pedagogy and instrumental teaching. Most recently, she has been completing a Certificate for Music Educators, further enhancing her skills as a reflective and forward-thinking teacher. In addition, she is currently studying for a Master of Science in Performance Science at the Royal College of Music, which deepens her understanding of the psychological, physiological, and social aspects of music performance and education. This ongoing academic and professional development informs her teaching practice and supports her commitment to nurturing well-rounded, confident, and motivated learners.

With a broad background in music education, Katie has taught in a variety of settings, including primary and secondary schools. Her experience spans individual lessons, small group teaching, whole-class woodwind instruction, and coaching ensembles. She is passionate about helping students develop their skills and confidence, whether they are working towards exams, playing for enjoyment, or exploring music for the first time. Katie has a proven ability to prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity College London music exams, with a strong track record of excellent results.
