About Daniel Kemshell
I'm a guitarist and composer from Aberdeen, now based in London, working across jazz, contemporary music, and theatre. My work focuses on improvisation, composition, and collaboration, and I’ve been fortunate to perform with a wide range of artists including Olivia Murphy’s Jazz Orchestra, Xhosa Cole, Jasmin Kent Rodgman, and Byron Wallen.
My debut EP Impromptus (2023), created with pianist Olly Chalk, explores duo improvisation and electronic textures. I'm currently working on my first album as bandleader, featuring bassist Aram Bahmaie and drummer Jack Robson.
I’ve also worked in theatre and opera, with credits including the Royal Shakespeare Company, Shadwell Opera, In Clay and currently as Guitar 1 in the West End production of The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical.
I trained at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and completed my Master’s at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance.
I'm open to a wide range of work including live performance, touring, recording sessions, theatre and pit work, creative collaborations, and composition/arranging projects. I’m particularly interested in improvisation-led and interdisciplinary work, as well as anything that explores new sonic or conceptual ground. I'm also available for teaching, workshops, and one-to-one lessons.
