About Benjamin Irvine-Capel
Benjamin Irvine-Capel is a Choral Scholar of Exeter Cathedral and a recent graduate of Genesis Sixteen.
Prior to Exeter, he was an Alto in Portsmouth Cathedral Choir, having been a Chorister of St Paul’s Cathedral in London. Whilst at St Paul’s, he participated in services of national significance such as Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th Birthday, services of commemoration marking the withdrawal of British troops from Afghanistan and the tenth anniversary of the 2005 London bombings, and a memorial service for the Grenfell Tower fire.
Through association with St Paul’s, Portsmouth, and Exeter Cathedrals, he has toured the USA, Germany, France (including as part of the commemorative events for the 80th anniversary of D-Day), and Sweden. He has undertaken solo repertoire in major works such as Bach’s St Matthew and St John Passions, Mass in B minor, and Handel’s Messiah.
Since moving to Devon, he has performed for concerts with groups such as the University of Exeter Choral Society, Wellington Choral Society, the Winkleigh Singers, the Dumnonii Consort, the Three Spires Singers, and at Powderham Castle. Further afield, he recently participated in the Bach Academy Bruges 2025 with Collegium Vocale Gent and toured Bach’s Mass in B minor with them to South Korea in September 2025.
Upcoming soloist engagements include concerts with the Torbay Singers, Exmouth Choral Society, Stratford-on-Avon’s ‘Shakespeare-in-Music’ festival, and a return to Powderham Castle, and he continues to perform with Contrepoint – a recently founded eight-part consort – as well as deputising for Westminster Cathedral Choir and Lady Clare’s Consort.
