About Ben Mason
Ben Mason is a versatile musician working as a clarinettist, composer, arranger, and educator in London. He completed his postgraduate studies at Trinity Laban where he studied clarinet under Michael Whight, Fiona Cross, and Anthony Pike and bass clarinet with Paolo De Gaspari. During his studies he held the Barbara & David Allen Scholarship and was the recipient of the Wilfred Hambleton Clarinet Prize, the Wilfred Hambleton Clarinet Competition and the Charles Proctor Prize for Choral Conducting.
In demand as an orchestral and session player, Ben has performed both internationally and around the UK, appearing with orchestras such as Glyndebourne Tour Orchestra and Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra. He can often be found in recording studios around London, recording for independent artists, contemporary , and other media projects - as a recording artist he has recorded under the Da Vinci Classics label.
As director of The Rosenberg Ensemble, Ben has shared his enthusiasm for wind ensembles and Harmoniemusik, showcasing underrated and lesser known composers by regularly programming works by Mysliveček, Hoffmeister, Druschetzky and Krommer. He has worked with the Waldstein Trio, with recent performances of Quartet for the End of Time at the Hellenic Centre and Angel's Arc at Wigmore Hall.
Ben is an active player in the contemporary music scene, specialising in improvisation and collaboration in multidisciplinary projects. With over 70 new works premiered to date, he is a driving force in innovation and acoustic exploration. He is a member of the newly formed group Triangulum, who are already making an impact on the contemporary scene.
