About Alessandra Amorino
Alessandra Amorino earned an MMus in Flute from the Conservatory of Cagliari (Italy) 1st performance and a BA in Chamber Music from the Conservatory of Rome (Italy) 1st performance. She was awarded the Berio Prize at the “Severino Gazzelloni Fellowship Competition” 2002, for the best performance of Berio’s “Sequenza I”.
As an expert in contemporary music, she performs as soloist and plays flute(s) in two renowned Italian chamber ensembles: Imago Sonora and Piccola Accademia degli Specchi (ensemble in residence for the School of Composition of the Conservatory of music of Rome), participating in major music festivals across Europe (including“30 Jahre ¦Let UNIKUM Cirkus” Klagenfurt University, “Internationales Minimal Music Festival” in Kassel, “Luigi Nono International Contemporary Music Festival” in Trieste, Bratisalva's “Dolce Vitaj” VI Festival, Concert season of the Zeeuwse Concertzaal in Middelburg; “Cantiere Musica”, “September Concert”, “Nuovi Spazi Musicali” and “Suona Francese” in Rome), giving several world and Italian premieres of dedicated scores.
She has an international standing and a distinctive track record which includes extensive experience working in orchestras and chamber ensembles (from duo to sextet), with a repertoire ranging from classical to contemporary music. She was a member of the Spoleto’s Teatro Lirico Orchestra (59th Opera season), and she frequently served as principal flute/piccolo in the R3O Orchestra in Rome (2002-2016) and as second flute in the Royal Northern Sinfonia in Newcastle upon Tyne.
She has participated in the recording of film soundtracks and new music by distinguished composers, such as Ennio Morricone, released on international labels. As a member of PAdS, she also recorded three albums (Minimamachta, Centaur Record, USA, 2009; House of Mirrors, Zefir Records, The Netherlands, 2011; Collision Point, Belarca Records, USA, 2019).
She is Flute Performance teacher at the Durham University - Music Department since 2019. She is Flute tutor (YMP) at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music; Flute tutor at the Newcastle High School for Girls, Flute and Music teacher at the Emmanuel College in Gateshead.
She has an MA in Art History from the Roma Tre University.
