It follows attempts by Conservative and Liberal Democrat peers to water down workers’ rights in the bill.

The letter, written by supermarket worker Finnola, highlights the bill’s improvements to sick pay and protections from third-party harassment. She also asks Prime Minister Keir Starmer to stand firm against the Lords' attacks on workers’ rights and ensure the Bill is passed in full.

The bill includes measures to deal with the unfairness of zero hours contracts, the gender pay gap, and day one employment rights that are potentially transformative for MU members.

As a Labour-affiliated trade union, the MU has been an intrinsic part of the discussions about measures in the bill. Its proposals should strengthen employment rights and security at work for all workers, including the self-employed.
