The MU stands in solidarity with our trans, nonbinary and intersex members following the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s (EHRC) draft updated Code of Practice that was published last week, following the 2025 Supreme Court ruling about the definition of sex in the Equality Act 2010.
We recognise the continued uncertainty for trans, nonbinary and intersex musicians in understanding how changes will be implemented, the impact on their experiences at work, and concerns about safety and discrimination.
The MU will not tolerate discrimination against trans, nonbinary and intersex musicians
The MU will not tolerate discrimination against trans, nonbinary and intersex musicians. We reiterate the concerns we shared last year with regards to the Supreme Court ruling and divisive misinformation.
The MU is seeking legal advice to understand how the Code of Practice impacts our members and will continue working to create a safe and inclusive music industry for all musicians.
If you are a member and you experience discrimination at work, please get in touch with the Musicians’ Union via your regional office for advice and support.
