The MU was proud to be part of the Together Alliance march last week, joining tens of thousands in central London for the biggest anti-far right demonstration in UK history.
According to Together Alliance, half a million people attended the march, though the Metropolitan Police reported an estimate of 50,000 attendees.
A powerful display of trade union solidarity
The march, which brought together people of all ages and backgrounds, was marked by a strong sense of collective unity with thousands of trade union members filling up the streets.
A delegation of MU members and supporters marched with t-shirts and placards stating, “No Fascists on the Setlist”, reflecting our strong commitment to resisting far-right ideology and standing up against those who seek to promote division, exclusion and censorship.
Music student, MU member and London Advisory Board representative Peter was part of the delegation, commenting: “I’m marching for migrants rights, trans rights, anti-fascism, education, housing, and working class solidarity.”

Unity, equality and cultural freedom are trade union values worth defending
Diversity is central to the strength of British music, and far‑right attacks on equality, arts funding and cultural freedom pose a real danger to musicians and society.
The MU’s presence at the march reinforced the union’s long-standing commitment to equality, anti-racism and the protection of musicians facing hostility in their work.
John Shortell, MU Head of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion said: “For the MU, being at the Together Alliance march mattered because our members know that unity, equality, and cultural freedom are trade union values worth defending. We are wholeheartedly committed to ensuring that the music industry is respectful, inclusive, and safe for all our members.”
