MU members in Wales can now apply for ‘Mentoring 4 Creatives’ – a professional development programme designed to support freelancers and casual workers across the creative industries. Run by CULT Cymru, the initiative is open to fully paid-up members of Bectu, Equity, or the MU.

The scheme will run from autumn 2026 through to late spring 2027, offering six mentoring sessions and peer networking opportunities.

Who can apply?

The programme is aimed at freelancers working in:

  • TV and film
  • Digital media
  • Theatre and the arts
  • Live events.

Applicants must be MU, Bectu, or Equity members and based in Wales. The programme welcomes a broad range of applicants, including:

  • New union members
  • Those returning to work after a break due to health, disability, parental leave or caring responsibilities
  • Individuals from under-represented groups including women, Global Majority communities, disabled and LGBTQ+ workers, and those from less advantaged socio-economic backgrounds.

What to expect

Successful applicants will be matched with experienced industry mentors working in a relevant creative field. Mentoring is typically delivered online, with the option to meet face-to-face when possible.

Each mentee will receive:

  • Six one-hour mentoring sessions across the programme period
  • Access to peer roundtables with fellow mentees.

Mentoring provides a confidential space to build confidence, gain clarity, and focus on your creative and career goals with the support of a mentor who challenges, encourages and guides, rather than instructs.

Information sessions

Two optional Zoom briefing sessions are being held to answer any questions about the scheme:

If you have any access requirements or questions ahead of the sessions, contact Siwan at siwan@bectu.org.uk.

The briefing session isn’t obligatory, and you can apply here now.

Apply by 17 September

This is a competitive process, and applicants are encouraged to read the full details from Cult Cymru before applying. The deadline to apply is is midnight on Thursday 17 September 2026.

Successful applicants will be asked to complete a short Welsh Government Learner Form, provide feedback at the end of the programme, and may be invited to share their experience as a case study.
