With the Government now saying socially distanced gigs can take place in England, bands can prepare to get back on stage. Social distancing also applies to musicians and therefore mitigations such as more space between musicians and the use of screens may be required. Purchasing face coverings and gig screens can add further expense in a climate where audience numbers are compromised.

The MU has teamed up with 'Le Mark' who manufacture gig screens. If you are an MU member, you can now purchase a 'gig screen' for live events with a 10% discount. Find out about how to claim your discount on Member Discounts page.

Stuart Gibbons, Managing Director Le Mark said: 'When Coronavirus struck, we turned our UK production facility that would normally be making work bags, gloves and back stage equipment into a face covering and social screens manufacturer. Initially, we produced cotton face mask, PVC aprons and face shields for the Healthcare sector.

During that period, we also developed our ‘Gig Screen’ to be used by touring musicians, bands and solo performers who need a robust, but quick built clear screen for smaller venues. We now offer the gig screen kit comprising the metal frame, PVC screen, and if needed, 6kg shot bags.

Dave Webster, MU National Organiser for Live Performance said: 'We are delighted that Le Mark has responded so positively for our members. Keeping musicians safe at work is paramount for us and we hope this will help in getting our members back to work with confidence'.

Please note that the use of screens may also affect volume levels. Please factor this into your risk assessments.
