The EES, an automated IT system that will modernise border control and replace passport stamping, is finally set to launch in October 2025. These changes will impact musicians crossing both UK and EU borders.

After multiple delays, the EU’s long-awaited Entry/Exit System (EES) is now scheduled to begin rolling out on 12 October 2025.

The EES is being introduced under what the EU is calling a “progressive start”. This means it will be gradually implemented across the external borders of 29 European countries over a six-month period, with the aim of being fully operational by 10 April 2026.

At this stage, it’s still unclear exactly how the EES will impact musicians travelling into the EU for tours, festivals, and other performances. The Musicians’ Union is monitoring developments closely and will continue to press for clarity.

We’re asking members to share their experiences of using EES

In the meantime, we’re asking members to share their experiences of using the system once it comes into effect. If you’re touring in Europe from October onwards and encounter any issues – or if the process runs smoothly – please let us know by emailing eutouring@themu.org.

Your feedback will help us better support members and campaign for improvements where needed.

More information on the EES can be found here.
