Join the MU on the Save Gwdihw March

Musicians’ Union (MU) members are encouraged to join a march on Saturday, 19 January, to protect Cardiff grassroots music venue Gwdihw.

Following on from the news item in December on the proposed closure and demolition of grassroots music venue Gwdihw and adjacent buildings in Guildford Crescent Cardiff, the petition has now reached over 20,000 signatures.

Adding to this, almost 700 letters of objection to the Council have been lodged. Such has been the support from members of the public.

The issue was debated in the Welsh Assembly on Tuesday this week. Because of the urgency of the matter, a march is to take place in Cardiff to protest against the proposed demolition of the venue and historical buildings of Guildford Crescent.

Attending the march

The march has been organised by the Save Gwdihw and Guildford Crescent campaign group. Supporters are asked to begin gathering at 2:00 pm on Womanby Street on Saturday, January 19.

After the march there will be a concert featuring some of the leading names in Welsh music, and a headline performance by Super Furry Animals' Gruff Rhys.

The MU’s Wales & South West England regional team will be in attendance – please come and join us at Womanby Street where the march will commence at 2:30pm. Look out for the MU flags!

There are further details on the march, plus the option to register your attendance, on the Save Gwdihw facebook group.
