About the event

Your local Members' Day is an opportunity to engage with your MU Regional Officials, Andy and Ruth, at a venue near you.

Alongside access to workshop sessions and portable appliance testing (PAT), there are also opportunities for one-to-one advice sessions with Officials - all free as a benefit of your MU membership. This is also a chance to meet with other MU members in your area, start up those conversations, and build your networks.

Workshops

These workshop sessions won’t be recorded, but if you would like to access them live online, please contact wswe@themu.org.

1. Working Smart, 11:00am - 11:45am

Learn about your MU benefits and services, and how they can assist you with your work and life as a musician.

Whether your work involves teaching, recording, writing, performing, directing or, like many musicians, a combination of these, the MU has a wide range of benefits and services, information and resources to help support you and your music. As a busy musician it’s all too easy to see these resources as something we refer to when we need them, but it’s useful to know what is on offer and why incorporating them can benefit your work and life as a musician.

Whether you’re booking gigs, arranging lessons with students, or you've been offered a publishing contract, much of your work as a musician is likely to include confirming what the work involves, negotiating a fee, and securing payment.

What does this process involve? What steps can you take to help ensure you get paid for the work you do? And what are the important factors to remember?

This workshop will explore these questions, the steps you can take as well as the resources and support (including the Legal Advice and Assistance Scheme and Contract Advice Service) that are available to you as an MU member.

2. Speak out, 12:00pm - 12:45pm

An informal feedback and Q&A session that can be tailored to you.

For example, this could be an opportunity to: find out more about specific areas of interest; to feedback on local issues; dicuss what you would like to see included in your local members' day next year; discuss potential motions for MU conference etc.

Additional options

These sessions are subject to availability, booked on a first-come first-served basis.

3. One-to-one session with your MU Regional Officials

An opportunity for questions and one-to-one advice with a Regional Official. Slots will be available between 2:00pm - 3:30pm. Please email wswe@themu.org to confirm your place.

Please include the topic/any specific questions you would like to discuss when booking, so that the most appropriate Official can be allocated to you.

4. Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)

This is an opportunity to ensure that your equipment is safe, and that you are able to provide assurances for your insurance, venues and bookers.

30 minute testing slots will be available between 10:00am - 4:00pm for up to six, individual portable electrical items, where you will be given stickers and official certificates by qualified tester Mike Nottage. View further details about  how to book and what items can be included.
