About the event
HMRC is in the middle of a big project to make all tax reporting digital.
They are keen that we all use new digital tools for our tax records. From April 2026, any sole traders earning more than £50,000 per year will have to report income and business expenses quarterly using ‘cloud accounting’ software.
Businesses that are VAT registered have had to do something similar since 2022.
What the session will cover
This session will look at the implications for sole trader freelancers of HMRC’s Making Tax Digital project. It will cover:
- What is cloud accounting software and how much will it cost?
- How do you keep digital records while keeping your sanity?
- Are tax returns a thing of the past? Are accountants a thing of the past?
- Where to find out more.
There will be plenty of opportunity to discuss all this and ask questions during the session. David* will also share his experiences (good and bad) of using cloud accounting software to help run his training business.
