About the event

Musicians earn an income when someone else wants to use their music. Giving someone else permission to use the music is called licensing, and the income it generates is called a royalty. Sometimes this licensing happens directly and sometimes it happens collectively, via a collective management organisation.

PRS and PPL

The MU is pleased to announce that representatives of PRS for Music and PPL will be joining us for an online event to talk to MU members about the royalties collected and distributed by each organisation. Also on the panel will be a representative of the MU Recording & Broadcasting department to discuss the royalties collected and distributed by the MU.

If you’re a songwriter or composer, at this session you’ll hear how and when PRS for Music collects royalties on your behalf. If you’re a recording artist or session musician, you’ll hear how and when PPL and the MU collect royalties for you. We’ll also discuss what you can do to ensure you receive the royalties you are due.

Important event information

This online event is free to attend for London members of the MU, but you are advised to book early as places are limited.
