About the event
With the next Northern Ireland Assembly election fast approaching in May 2027, the Musicians' Union is consulting members on our policy priorities and manifesto asks for political parties standing for election.
We want to make sure that our lobbying reflects the real experiences and concerns of members who work in all areas of the music industry across Northern Ireland. That's why we're inviting members to join our online roundtable discussion around what you want to see in party manifestos ahead of the elections, to help shape the issues we raise with political parties and future Assembly Members.
About the roundtable
This is an opportunity to discuss:
- The biggest challenges facing musicians in Northern Ireland
- What support government should provide for the music sector
- Fair pay and working conditions for musicians and freelancers
- Music education and skills development
- Grassroots music venues and touring
- Arts and culture funding
- Social security, taxation and support for self-employed creative workers
- Any other issues you would like to see addressed in party manifestos
Whether you're a performer, educator, producer, composer, songwriter, DJ or work in another part of the music industry, we'd like to hear from you. The discussion will directly inform the MU's engagement with political parties ahead of the election and help ensure that the voices of musicians are represented in policy debates.
