About Steven Burge

Hi Steve Burge a professional session drummer clinician and tutor of Drum Sense founded by Collin Woolway who just happens to be totally blind.

I am also a professional mixing and mastering engineer and a keen user of protools to expert level and advocate for accessibility within the pro music industry.

I lost my sight at the age of 20 due to being diagnosed with Bardet Beidl Syndrome at the age of 11 and this has never stopped me aspioring to overcome the challenges of working in the pro music industry with all of the challenges that it brings.

I have been a tutor and clinician for over 20 yrs and have performed at professional drum clinics along side my sighted colleagues such as Colling Woolway, Bobby Arechiga Russell Gillbrook and Robbin Guy.as well as 5 yrs playing drums with David Markee as a trainee worship drummer at Follys End church in Croydon.

I trained as a sound engineer at the Royal National College in Hereford taught by Paul Cobbole I learnt all of the necessary skills to work in a professional recording environment.

A Keen user of Protools and otherWaves plugins, I am always having to overcome issues with accessibility and I feel this has made me very robust at solving and overcoming problems that would otherwise phase some of my sighted colleagues.

I am an artist endorsee for Cambridge drums and have my own custom kit that was built for me in 2022. The team at Cambridge drums have given me great support and I am their only blind artist endorsee in the world who is blind!

Current projects include being a visiting drum tutor for Weston University campus and from September 2023 will be the first blind freelance drum tutor for Bristol Beacon.

I am open to any work opportunities either in the studio or on tour and willing to travel for.
