About Sharon Hubbocks
I began violin lessons aged 8 with teacher Ralph Barker in my home town of Huddersfield. Quickly rising through the music scene, winning competitions and eventually leading the Kirklees Youth Orchestra, after which I studied with the renowned teacher Herbert Whone of Harrogate.
I performed for several years under the name ‘The Magic Bow’, sometimes with classical guitarist John Kaye or pianist David Wood, playing at weddings, garden parties, festivals, busking, fairs and concerts.
After moving to Devon in 2002 I played with many orchestras and ensembles including The British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, Taunton Sinfonietta and South West Sinfonietta. A regular player with Plymouth Philharmonic Choir Orchestra and South Devon Choir Orchestra and was also a member of steampunk outfit The Copperfield Ensemble. I work as a freelance violinist/violist regularly undertaking recording session for bands/TV/radio.
Since 2020 my main focus has been working on my new project with multi instrumentalist Tim Heming. Gypsy Dreams was created just before lockdown in 2020. A year later and we have a large and varied repertiore including Classical, Gypsy Jazz, Folk music and Klesmer.
I play violin and occasionally viola with Obligato string quartet, mostly performing at Weddings and private parties.
