About Peters Blackett I Px I MPhil, MA, MBACP (accred).
Hello I am Peters Blackett,
I fell in love with music age 10, my way to capture the world & make sense of life. I took every opportunity to learn about music amassing 3 grade VIIIs in Tuba, Guitar and Theory. I played in all the Youth Wind Bands, Jazz Bands, Silver and Brass Bands and orchestras I could. As a teenager Working/Shredding in a music store, tape-opping at local studios then playing with anybody needing a drummer. I was getting regular gigs all over the UK and Europe in Pub bands, Rock n Roll, Soul and Blues Revue along with artists on the Cooking Vinyl label playing folk-rock mostly. I was fortunate to play, record & tour with artists like Levellers, *Rev Hammer, Mick Taylor, David Gray, Katrina (of the Waves) Ukrainians & the Oyster Band, recording an album produced by Justin Sullivan. I was integral to the album *Free Born John, writing & recording with Eddie Reader & Maddy Prior.
Still a multi-instrumental sideman; Drums, Guitar, Bouzouki, Synths, Mandolin, Bass, Tuba, Percussion & as one album credit has it: Weirdness! My writing style was expanding from folk to electronica, Techno to World working with electronic music producers. In 1994 I was involved in a series of concerts for Warchild with The Cellist of Sarajevo - Vedran Smailović. this led to a tour of Bosnia with the Serious Road Trip. Truly a turning point in my creative life.
A highlight of those 5 months was visiting what was to become the Pavarotti Music Therapy centre Mostar.
I found the missing element to my creative life, discovering music’s profound & transformative effect. Just playing to people was not enough for me anymore.
By 1997 I began training as a therapist & set up my recreational music & drumming group UMBANDA
in 1999 successfully providing workshops & events globally for 20 years. Highlights include a commission titled Ritmo Della Vita facilitating a large scale Rhythmical Event at the Pirelli Cultural Centre in Milan, hundreds of therapeutic moments with Mencap, meeting my wife at UCLA where she played Shekere, Health Rhythms sessions in Hollywood at the Remo centre, fun filled workshops at Sadlers Wells for the Arts Council induction days and countless Beautiful British Summer Festivals!
In June 2021 I was placed into a coma after contracting Delta Variant Covid -19. I was lucky enough to come home in September, many were not so lucky.
I am currently on hiatus and my recovery is going well. Because of neurological issues I developed in coma I am re-learning aspects of guitar playing and drumming and I have permanently paralysed vocal cord. I am discovering my best practice as a musician with Disabilities.I am blessed to be here. My life will never be the same. I am feeling more creative than ever.
