Onur Yuce – Musician, Educator, and Composer
With over two decades of rich experience spanning performance, composition, and teaching, Onur Yuce stands out as a multifaceted musician and academic. His profound expertise in electronic and produced music has led him to significant roles as a performer, producer, composer, and sound artist, with notable work across disciplines such as Electronic Music and Film Music. Onur's music has graced platforms like Netflix, documentaries, and theatre productions, primarily leveraging Logic Pro X. As a saxophonist, he showcases a mastery across a myriad of genres ranging from jazz and rock to pop, punctuated by his robust academic foundation from the renowned Berklee College of Music and a Master’s in Ethnomusicology from Hacettepe University.
Onur has dedicated a decade to mentoring students at Hacettepe University, covering a spectrum of subjects from jazz improvisation to film scoring. His pedagogical journey further evolved at Royal Holloway University of London (RHUL) during his pursuit of a PhD in musical composition, where he also assumed the role of an Assistant tutor for composition and world music. The crux of his PhD research dwells on the role of musical theatre in confronting sociocultural norms in the Greater Middle East, adding an insightful dimension to his multifaceted profile.
Outside the classroom, Onur's accomplishments gleam through his compositions and contributions to musical theatre. His works, including "Bacha Posh: A Hip Hop Musical" and "Constantina Pole: A Drag Queen Musical," are a testament to his creative prowess. Moreover, he has composed music for diverse theatre plays and TV series, demonstrating his versatile talent in crafting sonic narratives for varied artistic expressions.
Onur's exceptional contributions to music have been recognized with awards and honors, including the Art Association Best Music and Best Play Award for his rock musical adaptation "Woyzeck Masalı." As a member of esteemed associations like MESAM and the Modern Theatre Association, Onur continually engages with contemporary music practices, trends, and networks. Fluent in multiple languages and proficient in a suite of musical tools, Onur’s blend of talent, experience, and passion makes him a distinctive presence in the global music community.
