About Musician
Marco's musical journey began with a profound lesson in traditional Neapolitan songs, sung by his mother. These early melodies left an indelible mark on his heart, setting the stage for his enduring path in music.
At 13, Marco discovered the electric bass, igniting a passion that led him to tour Europe with rock, funk, and prog bands. His dedication to his craft eventually took him to the Parma Conservatory, where he earned a degree in Jazz and Double Bass/Bass, alongside studies in composition.
A significant period as a music therapist with the Italian NHS allowed Marco to witness firsthand the therapeutic power of music, deepening his appreciation for its ability to heal and soothe.
Drawn to his roots, Marco spent transformative years in Izmir, Turkey, immersing himself in modal music and studying the OUD under renowned masters at the Conservatory of Turkish Music in Izmir. During this time, he also developed expertise in playing the fretless bass, further enhancing his musical versatility.
In addition to his proficiency with the OUD, Fretless Bass, and Double Bass, Marco recently earned a Master of Music degree with distinction from Edinburgh Napier University. His research, "Jazz and Makam through the Lens of Microtonality: A Syncretic Experience," explores the intricate fusion of jazz and makam, delving into the world of microtonality as a means of musical syncretism.
As a dedicated music educator, Marco believes in music's power to foster social justice, bringing people together regardless of their backgrounds.
Having performed worldwide, he is currently working on releasing his first album, based on the concept of syncretism.
