The Coronet is launching a campaign calling on Southwark Council and landlord, Delancey, to make a firm commitment to securing the future of the multipurpose venue in Elephant & Castle. The Coronet’s lease is due to expire in November 2015.  Currently the venue has received no clear assurances from either Delancey or Southwark Council on whether it can continue to operate in its current location. The Coronet says, “We recognise the Elephant & Castle is undergoing significant and exciting regeneration, and we warmly welcome this investment in the area’s future.  We want to play an important part in that regeneration, helping to ensure the cultural fabric of Southwark is protected and enhanced for future generations.  However, we need assurances about whether we can stay in either our current venue, or if a suitable modern replacement will be sourced for us.” Sign the petition to Save the Coronet: https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/southwark-council-save-the-coronet If you are a resident in Southwark you can show your support for the campaign by writing to your local Ward Councillor, urging them to act to safeguard the future of the Coronet in Elephant and Castle. The Coronet hosts 120 to 130 events every year and employs over 100 full and part time staff. Artists who have appeared there include Professor Green, Mumford and Sons, Steve Aoki, Tinchy Stryder, Tim Minchin, The Fall, Faithless, Groove Armada, Will.i.am, Kelis, Tinie Tempah, The Maccabees, Eliza Doolittle, Fischerspooner, Annie Mac, The Good, the Bad and the Queen, Oasis, Placebo, Justin Timberlake, Primal Scream, The Libertines, Macy Gray, LCD Soundsystem, Alicia Keys, Franz Ferdinand, Blur and Hot Chip.
