The MU supports freedom of speech and the right of artists to use their platform to advocate for causes they believe in, protest government policy, and express political views. It should not be for the government or the state to decide what the subject of art should be.

To that end, the MU supports Freemuse, an organisation working to defend artistic freedom worldwide.

There is no space for discrimination or hate in the music industry or our society.

It is fundamental that everyone is able to freely create, perform and enjoy art without fear of discrimination or persecution. At the same time, freedom of speech must come together with equality, inclusion and accountability.

The MU stands against discrimination in all its forms.

If you are affected by discrimination at work and need advice, please reach out to your Regional Office in the first instance.
