MU Meets Labour Movement for Europe to Discuss Next Steps for EU Touring

Last week the Union met with MPs and Peers to press for progress on EU touring barriers at a parliamentary roundtable.

On Wednesday 16 July, the MU’s Head of International, Dave Webster, joined Jon Collins from LIVE (Live music Industry Venues & Entertainment, and Olga Fitzroy from UK Music, at the House of Lords to discuss the ongoing challenges facing musicians touring the EU post-Brexit.

The roundtable, hosted by Stella Creasy MP, brought together Labour Movement for Europe MPs and Peers to consider the outcomes of the recent UK-EU Summit on 19 May, and to explore how the Government’s commitment to supporting touring artists can be kept at the top of the parliamentary agenda.

The MU would like to thank Stella Creasy MP and her team for facilitating this important discussion, and all those who attended for their ongoing support for UK musicians.

Pernambuco Bows to Remain on Appendix II

A proposal to move pernambuco to Appendix I, which would have effectively halted international trade in the wood used for professional string instrument bows, has been rejected after lobbying by the MU and partners, ensuring continued access for musicians and stronger species protections.

Organisations from Across UK and Europe Join Forces to Remove Barriers to Touring and Drive Growth

A new UK–EU Cultural Exchange Coalition has launched today, uniting the MU and major creative organisations to push for removing post-Brexit touring barriers. The alliance seeks to turn political promises on cultural exchange into action supporting artists and renewing collaboration.
