Coach driver for the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO) Hugh Glover shares a moment in his life made by orchestral music as part of the Musician Behind the Moment campaign.

“I’m a 71 year old a guy and I’m like a kid, I’m still buzzing from Sunday. Nickie got me into the BSO Inspiration Choir and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. We’ve done 12 weeks of rehearsals, trying to learn the words to 14 songs – one in Italian, one in German – which I never thought I could do, but I remembered it.

“That moment of rehearsal when, stood on the stage with them… I could say the BSO are my heroes. And we started off with an Oliver medley and the moment they struck up, I was goosebumps from head to toe.

“To think that I was on stage performing with my heroes… it’s just that moment. It was just amazing. I would never have done that if it hadn’t been for the BSO.

“I’m their coach driver, one of two coaches they use all the time. I’m the main one now.

“When they get home late, I try and get the players as near to home as possible. I got told off by my boss but I’m not having them walk through town with their instruments at 1 o’clock in the morning, They are like my family, They made me feel welcome right from the start. They got me into this choir.

“Apart from the births and the marriages and the sons and the grandsons, it’s one of the best things I’ve done in my life.

“They’re world class professionals, they’re so good and they’re there supporting me.

“I can’t wait for the Christmas concerts. We’ll be starting in September for Christmas. I’m hooked now. And my son and my wife came to the concert with the choir, and they’re seriously interested in joining the choir for Christmas.

“My sons and my grandsons love it as well, the concerts, and they’re going to an open air BSO one in August. It’s a disco classics one in Meyrick Park in Bournemouth and we’ll be there with picnics. In simple terms, they’re just awesome.”
