The MU and The F-List partnered for Women's History Month 2021 to organise two workshops delivered by the Female DIY Musician aimed to help women record and share their music.

The workshops were accompanied by workbooks to provide musicians with the opportunity to keep developing their skills and confidence beyond the event.

We’ve now released these workbooks to all members, and they can be downloaded from our website.

The "How to Set Up Your Home Studio Session" workbook explores how you can start recording at home, looking at how to organise your space, setting parameters, applying effects and exporting. The guide includes:

  • Essential daw settings checklist
  • Saving your work
  • Organising your session
  • Choosing your mics
  • Positioning your mics

And the "How to Set Up Your Home Studio Space" workbook explores sound treating with household items as well as professional kit, including:

  • Getting your acoustics right
  • Essential home recording gear

“It was great to partner with the F-List to celebrate Women’s History Month. We look forward to working with the F-List and championing their work in the future.

“These events and workshops are ideas that come directly via our Women Members Network, who asked us to provide workshops to build skills and provide a space to hear about the unique challenges women of colour and disabled women face navigating the music industry.

“If you’d like to get involved in any of our members networks, you can find out more and join on our website.”
