You can find your MP’s email address on the Parliament website.

You can still write to your MP if you’re a British citizen living abroad, and if you have no fixed address.

Dear [add your MP name here],

I am your constituent living at [add your full address and postcode here].

As a musician/creator, I am concerned that tech firms are being given free rein to train their artificial intelligence (AI) models on creative works without consent, credit or remuneration. This will cause untold damage to the UK’s creative industries and my livelihood as a musician and music creator.

[Use this space to talk about your personal experiences. Have you lost a job to AI? Has your work been used to train AI – or are you concerned that it might be? How do you feel about the future of your music work?]

As my MP, I urge you to lobby government to introduce the following measures in the upcoming AI Bill:

  • Fair remuneration for composers and performers, who should be guaranteed a fair share of the revenue from AI-generated music
  • Stronger copyright and a legal requirement to get consent from the original creators before their work is used to train AI models
  • Publicity, personality and personal data rights to give people greater control over how their image is used.

I also urge you to:

  • Make a public statement in support of musicians and the wider creative industries
  • Read this abridged briefing from the Musicians’ Union and contact them for further information: https://theMU.org/AI-briefing

Yours sincerely,

Do you think big tech firms should be able to use your music to train their AI models without your consent? The MU is fighting for consent, credit and fair remuneration
