About Jon Sterckx
Jon is a freelance musician – performer, tabla & percussion teacher, session musician and teaches and delivers Indian Music and World Rhythm workshops in schools, colleges, universities, festivals and cultural events. Jon also teaches weekly tabla classes in Swindon and individual lessons in the Gloucestershire area. Jon teaches various percussion instruments online to students around the world and is a prominent exponent of the Kashaka percussion shakers (also known as Asalato). He provides online recording sessions for artists, composers & producers around the world. Jon is based near Stroud, Gloucestershire, South West UK.
Jon studied tabla in India with Kailash Nishad (Benares), and Shivanand Bandhari (Kumta, Karnataka) & in UK with Harjinder Singh Matharu.
Jon has performed twice at the globally known TED events, at WOMAD, London International Arts Festival, Cardiff Mela, Glasgow Mela, Belfast Mela and at most of the UK’s major world music events. Jon has performed with, and recorded for Grammy winning and Grammy nominated artists. He is a former Associate Lecturer of the University of Plymouth and is a tutor and mentor for South West Music School. More info on website.
