The MU is backing the Ukraine Solidarity Campaign's Frontline Schools Appeal, which follows requests from Ukraine's education union, VPONU, and the Independent Trade Union of Miners of Ukraine (NGPU).
The appeal will support Pavlohrad Gymnasium No. 11 and Kryvyi Rih Gymnasium No. 34, where children are frequently required to learn in basement shelters because of near-daily drone and missile attacks.
Requested items
The appeal aims to provide essential equipment and resources to help pupils continue their education safely during air raid alerts. Requested items include:
- Laptops, computers, whiteboards and interactive boards for lessons held in shelters
- English literature and educational books to support learning and language development
- Educational games and creative kits for primary-age children learning in cramped underground spaces
- Toys, puzzles and craft materials to provide moments of relief during long hours spent in bunkers
- Sports equipment, including basketballs, volleyballs and outdoor play equipment
- Winter supplies to help keep basement classrooms warm and usable during colder months.
There is also an opportunity to support young musicians in Pavlohrad. The school has identified a need for both folk and contemporary musical instruments, including trumpets, flutes, saxophones, violins, guitars, bass guitars and drums.
MU members who may be able to donate any of the requested items are encouraged to contact the Ukraine Solidarity Campaign to discuss arrangements by emailing info@ukrainesolidaritycampaign.org.

Alongside support for schools, the wider aid project aims to deliver assistance to medical workers and provide a pickup truck for the 10th Mine Rescue Squad in Donbas.
Every donated item and every shared appeal helps strengthen this project and provide practical support to children, educators, healthcare workers and rescue teams working under extremely difficult circumstances.
