About the event

The MU are delighted to work in collaboration with BAPAM (British Association For Performing Arts Medicine) to offer our members a vocal health workshop with Eimear McCarthy Luddy (MMus).

Three-quarters of musicians have health problems that can impact their creative work, ranging from minor inconveniences to career-limiting conditions (Ackermann, Kenny 2014). Many of these conditions could be prevented by healthy practice.

This session focuses on evidence-based practical skills and draws from performance experience, research findings, psychology, and proven vocal health clinical pathways. The session will last for one hour and participants will learn:

  • The basics of care and maintenance to avoid vocal problems
  • How to identify the signs and symptoms if they do occur
  • How to manage issues, promote good health, and where to go for help.

More free services from BAPAM

As well as training musicians to prevent health problems, BAPAM also offers free medical advice at its Belfast clinic and around the UK, as well as online. Additionally, BAPAM's website includes a large archive of guidance and factsheets, covering a wide range of physical health topics for artists and creators.
