Faber Music and Sound and Music have announced a new partnership and the creation of ten Faber Music Bursaries, which will be made available to young composers and music creators to attend the Sound and Music Summer School in 2021.

Financial support from Faber Music has enabled the creation of ten Faber Music Bursaries, each of which will cover the full costs of a place for a young person who faces a barrier to taking part because of their family’s financial circumstances.

Both Sound and Music and Faber Music are committed to ensuring that young people from all backgrounds have more opportunities to learn composition and develop their skills, and these bursaries will support them in achieving this goal.

Now in its 13th year, the Sound and Music Summer School is the only, annual, residential course of its kind in the UK for young composers and music creators aged 14-18.

Each year 75 young people participate in a unique week working alongside professional composers and musicians, allowing them to explore new areas of musical creation, from composing for moving image to writing for the voice.

Alumni have gone on to study at the country’s best conservatoires and received prestigious commissions, such as Lillie Harris and Ben Corrigan.

Applications open for the 2021 Summer School on 12 January.

More information, including links to the online application form can be found on the Sound and Music website.
