About Griselda Sanderson
The daughter of a violin maker, Griselda is a specialist in bowed stringed instruments, violin/fiddle, viola, Swedish nyckelharpa, Norwegian Hardanger fiddle and piano. She was brought up in Central Scotland attending the RSAMD as a junior student. She went on to study music at Dartington College of Arts and has a PhD in Musicology with a focus on contemporary practice of traditional music in Scotland & Ireland, going on to teach music performance and ethnomusicology at university. On her Waulk Records label she has released several albums, producing music with musicians from West and North Africa including Juldeh Camara, Amadou Diagne and Simo Lagnawi. Griselda has produced four solo albums to date: 'Harpaphonics' 2009, 'Radial' 2015, 'Drawing Threads' 2021 and 'Tales from Across the Water' 2022. The duo album 'Veer' with Portuguese percussionist Ricardo de Noronha came out in 2017. She has arranged and performed string parts for numerous projects including Jim Palmer, BG, the 'Wild Bill' ITV series, Sony's 'Evermore' game series and in 2026 Amazon Prime's 'Bloodaxe,' the new 'Vikings' series. She has toured with the Royal Shakespeare Company and played a seaon at Shakespeares Globe as well as working with other comtemporary theatre projects. Griselda's current projects include The Bear's Den Dance Band (for ceilidhs and Irish set dancing) and Meridianum Ensemble, a six-piece international group with Soufian Saihi (oud), Louis Bingham (cittern), Ricardo de Noronha (percussion), Steve Tyler (hurdy-gurdy) and Nuno Silva (Kanun and santur) in which she plays violin, viola and nyckelharpa. Griselda is also an instrumental teacher who enjoys inspiring students from age seven to seventy.
