Online Event Examining the History of Racism in British Music Open to All

The event, which will involve a screening of 'The RE:IMI UK Music Industry And Racism' video and presentations by music industry organisation representatives, will run online on Monday 28 September.

RE:IMI (Race Equality: In Music Industry) co-ordinator Kwaku will be leading the event, which through live presentations, video and open discussion will highlight the little-known histories of music and the interplay of racism and Afriphobia in the UK over the decades.

The event will include a screening of 'The RE:IMI UK Music Industry And Racism' video. Following this, special guest Prof. Paul Gilroy, Director of the Sarah Parker Remond Centre for the Study of Racism & Racialisation, will summarise and offer some discussion points.

The music industry professionals who will be taking part in the event include the MU’s Education and Equalities Officer, Rose Delcour-Min.

Details on the Zoom meeting will be provided once you have booked your place on the event, and tickets are on sale from £5.98. It will run from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm on Monday 28 September, and we recommend that you book your place in advance.

Tribute to Martin Bowen

Martin Bowen enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a professional bassoonist and was deeply committed to the Musicians' Union. After joining in 1973, he served with dedication as an MU Steward for BBC NOW. This tribute has been written by his brother-in-law, John.

MU Concerned by New EU Customs Fees for Artists Selling Merchandise

A new EU customs charge on low-value parcels is creating additional costs and administrative challenges for musicians selling merchandise directly to fans in Europe. The MU will work to ensure musicians affected by the new legislation are represented at a stakeholder consultation later this year.
