Sample motion

This Constituency Labour Party notes that:

  • Busking is a form of creative work that is flexible, inclusive and a viable career option for musicians
  • Busking is part of the cultural fabric of our towns and cities, helping to bring and keep people who then shop in local businesses and spend time in local restaurants and cafes
  • The Musicians’ Union is campaigning against busking bans in Birmingham city centre and London’s Leicester Square.

This CLP further notes that local authorities and trade unions have worked together to develop guidance, codes and schemes to support buskers and local communities across the UK.

This CLP believes that busking should be respected as a type of employment and recognised for the value it brings to towns and cities.

This CLP resolves:

  • To publicly support musicians’ campaigns to bring back in Birmingham and London
  • To call on (Insert CLP) Labour councillors and prospective councillors to work with the Musicians' Union to protect busking in the constituency.
