Are you an experienced musician and MU member that would like to get involved in the key decisions affecting your Union?

The activities of the Musicians' Union, our finances, staffing, membership benefits, campaigns and negotiated agreements are all overseen by our Executive Committee (EC).

We are now looking for members who wish to get involved in our Executive Committee starting in 2025.

What does the Executive Committee do?

The EC receives reports from MU staff, officials and our other Committees and makes decisions on behalf of the wider Union membership that affect the working lives of musicians.

As the national governing body of the Musicians' Union, the EC deals with many important issues such as industrial negotiations, employment policy and financial management.

Although they are elected by members in their own Region of the MU, they are a council of musicians who make decisions on behalf of the Union nationally rather than representing a specific area or constituency of members.

EC meetings take place monthly (except in August) and their business is varied, interesting and relevant to the lives of all working musicians. In recognition of the demands on their time, EC members receive reimbursement of expenses incurred as well as a sitting fee or compensation for any loss of earnings.

Find out if you're eligible to stand

It is important our EC is diverse and representative of all our members and ideally all areas of musical work.

If you've been an MU member for at least 3 years , you could be eligible to stand to be a member of the EC. No specific experience is necessary, and we run an induction process for new EC members.

That said, if you haven’t been on an MU committee previously or been in a similar environment a Regional Committee or Section Committee might be a good initial step for you.

If you would like to stand and bring your point of view to the Union's democracy, you can find more information on how to put yourself forward through our nomination process

The MU and FAC Publish Open Letter to Government and Live Sector on Cost-of-Touring Crisis

The letter states how artists have previously been locked out of support mechanisms offered to other parts of the industry, and calls for a blanket ticket levy on arena events to help musicians progress in the sector. Members can show support for the letter by signing the MU and FAC’s petition.
