MU Democracy

The MU is here for you and only you. Our democratic structure means that it’s musicians who decide what we do – no corporate interests, no agenda.

Last updated: 25 March 2022

Like all other trade unions, the MU is a democratic organisation, governed by its members through a system of representative democracy.

Union members are elected as delegates to the MU's Delegate Conference and onto representative Committees. Decision-making takes place at Conferences and through the actions of the network of Union Committees. The most important of these Committees is the Executive Committee (EC).

Every member can be involved as much or as little as they wish. Members can also submit motions for committees to consider.

Summary Accounts are available to all members.

General Secretary Election 2022

In accordance with current trade union legislation, the Executive Committee (EC) hereby announces that an election for the position of General Secretary is taking place in 2022, as General Secretary Horace Trubridge’s current term of office expires on 22 March 2022.
